OSINT Training Log: Protecting the Police with Advanced OpSec Training

Our mission to protect cyber police continues. 

OSINT Industries’ trainer Nathan R. advanced our collaboration with the Philippine National Police, delivering expert training on Operational Security (OpSec) practices to their Cyber Tracker and Patroller Team. As with our previous sessions, the mission was clear: to keep these specialist officers safe while they work. 

Mission Objective: Not Just For Criminals

OpSec is how cybercriminals hide their crimes; with strong OpSec, a threat actor can shield their offline identity from their online offences. So often, OpSec slip-ups solve cases. Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road, was caught with a re-used username. Similarly, Alexandre Cazes of AlphaBay infamy was found with a personal email. 

Yet while poor operational security from bad guys is a boon, from police it can be dangerous. If a single leaked login could destroy a dark web empire - who knows what a tip-off could do to a carefully constructed case. 

Training Highlights

The training covered: 

• Advanced OSINT: Building on the fundamentals of open-source intelligence
• Cyber Investigations: Real cybercrime case studies from global law enforcement 
• Investigative Workflows: Structured workflows for sensitive cyber investigations
• Operational Security (OpSec): Protocols to protect investigations and officers from leaks, attacks, or discovery by threat actors

The programme zeroed in on strategies that work for law enforcement. Officers learned practical safeguards and proven OpSec protocols that can be instantly integrated into day-to-day operations. So they stay secure - from first lead to final arrest.

Modern cybercriminals often monitor their cases. When your target can probe digital infrastructure and exploit mistakes, maintaining a secure investigative posture has never been more important.
